ChatGPT pricing in 2026 runs from a free plan to Pro at $500 a month. In between sit Go at $8, Plus at $20 and Business at $25 a seat. Every individual plan is billed monthly only, and the cheaper two show ads in OpenAI’s test regions.
This ChatGPT pricing guide lists every plan, what each one limits, and which one fits which user. We also read OpenAI’s pricing and help pages on September 30 and October 1, 2026. Our ChatGPT review covers the assistant itself.
ChatGPT Pricing: The Short Answer
For most people, Plus at $20 a month is the plan to buy. It removes ads, unlocks the stronger GPT-5.6 Sol in chat, and expands deep research, Codex and ChatGPT Work. Go, at $8, however, mainly raises Free’s limits and may still show ads.
Pro, by contrast, makes sense only for heavy users: it starts at $100 for about five times Plus’s Codex usage. Teams, meanwhile, should look at Business, which keeps data out of training by default.
Every ChatGPT Plan and Price
| Plan | Price | Main difference |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | GPT-5.6 Luna; capped tools; ads may appear |
| Go | $8/mo (US) | Higher limits than Free; may include ads |
| Plus | $20/mo | GPT-5.6 Sol; expanded tools; no ads |
| Pro 100 | $100/mo | GPT-6 Pro in chat; about five times Plus’s Codex use |
| Pro 200 | $200/mo | More usage; lower allowance for new subscribers |
| Pro 500 | $500/mo | Highest Pro usage; adds Ultrafast |
| Business | $25 a seat, or $20 yearly | Two-seat minimum; no training by default |

Free and Go
First, Free offers unlimited everyday text chats with GPT-5.6 Luna, subject to abuse guardrails, and capped uploads, images, voice and deep research. Its fast-mode context is 27K tokens. It also includes a Codex trial and up to three scheduled tasks.
Go then costs $8 a month in the US and raises those caps, with 54K of fast-mode context. ⚠️ However, Go does not remove ads, as OpenAI’s plan card notes. Our comparison of free and paid AI tools covers when Free is enough.
Plus
Plus, by contrast, costs $20 a month and is sold monthly only, so a year comes to $240. In chat, it runs GPT-5.6 Sol at Instant, Medium and High effort, while GPT-6 Astra appears only in ChatGPT Work and Codex.
It also expands deep research, projects, scheduled tasks, image creation and Codex, and it removes ads, as our guide to ChatGPT for research covers. Since September 14, moreover, Plus no longer switches to Thinking on its own, as our guide to using ChatGPT effectively explains.
Pro 100, Pro 200 and Pro 500
The Pro tiers add GPT-6 Pro in chat with weekly limits, longer Work and Codex sessions, and an always-on agent called a dot, launch coverage reports. At $100, the first tier gives about five times Plus’s Codex usage, OpenAI’s Codex pricing page says. Our guide to ChatGPT for productivity also covers dots.
New subscribers to the $200 tier, however, now get a lower allowance, while existing ones keep the old one through October 29, 2026. At the top, the $500 tier adds Ultrafast, a faster Astra mode. Our guide to ChatGPT for coding covers what the Codex allowance means in practice.
Business and Enterprise
The Standard tier costs $25 a seat monthly or $20 billed yearly, with a two-seat minimum. Premium seats, meanwhile, cost $125 a seat monthly or $100 yearly and can mix with Standard seats.
On Business and Enterprise, moreover, OpenAI does not train on your content by default. Our list of the best AI for business compares Business with Claude Team and Google Workspace.
What the Limits Really Mean
However, OpenAI publishes few fixed counts. Deep research, for example, is described as limited on Free and Go, expanded on Plus and maximum on Pro, with an in-product counter. Codex, in turn, lists estimated messages per five hours as wide ranges, and ChatGPT Work shares that allowance.
So check the counter before a heavy week, and note that Codex and Work draw on the same pool. Our comparison of AI tool limits sets these caps against rivals.

Ads, Training and Refunds
On ads, Free and Go may show them in OpenAI’s test regions, while Plus and above do not. On personal plans, ChatGPT also trains on your chats by default, and you can opt out in Data controls. When a tool stops responding, our guide to AI tools not working lists six checks in order.
Refunds, meanwhile, are generally not offered, though OpenAI may refund an unused individual subscription within 7 days. Users in the EU, UK and Turkey, moreover, get prorated refunds within 14 days, OpenAI’s Help Center says.
Student Offer and Yearly Cost
In addition, eligible US college and graduate students can get four free months of Plus if they claim the offer by October 31, 2026, OpenAI’s help page says. After that, Plus costs $20 a month, as our guide to ChatGPT for students explains.
Over twelve months, for example, Go comes to $96, Plus to $240 and Pro 100 to $1,200, since none offers yearly billing. Our breakdown of what AI tools cost per year compares those totals with rivals.
Which ChatGPT Plan to Choose
In short, ChatGPT pricing rewards starting small. Stay on Free for occasional questions, and skip Go unless you need its higher caps and can live with ads. Take Plus for regular work, research and light coding. Our guide on how to cancel ChatGPT Plus also covers refunds and the 24-hour renewal rule.
Move to Pro 100 only if you hit Plus’s Codex or Work limits every week. For the same $20, though, Claude Pro and Google AI Pro are the closest rivals, as our ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison shows. Our list of ChatGPT alternatives covers the rest.

The Verdict
ChatGPT pricing has more tiers than ever, but the choice is simpler than it looks. Plus at $20 is the plan for most people, Free covers occasional use, and Pro is for those who hit limits every week.
Therefore, start on Free, move to Plus when the caps get in the way, and opt out of training in Data controls on any personal plan.
