Claude pricing in 2026 starts with a free plan and then jumps to Pro at $20 a month, or $200 a year. Above that, Max costs $100 or $200 a month, and Team seats cost $25, or $20 on yearly billing.

This Claude pricing guide lists every plan, what each one limits, and which one fits which user. We read Anthropic’s pricing and help pages between September 30 and October 2, 2026. Our Claude review covers the assistant itself.

Claude Pricing: The Short Answer

For regular use, Pro at $20 a month is the plan to buy, and yearly billing also brings it to about $17. It adds Research, Claude Code, more projects and at least five times Free’s usage per session. Claude also shows no ads on any plan.

However, Anthropic publishes no fixed message counts. Limits run on five-hour sessions plus a weekly cap, and Max at $100 or $200 a month is the way to raise them.

Free

First, Claude Free costs nothing and shows no ads. It offers Sonnet and Haiku models, as our guide to Claude for writing covers, plus up to five projects and a session limit that resets every five hours, without a fixed message count.

However, Free leaves out Research and Claude Code. Our comparison of free and paid AI tools sets it against other free plans.

Pro

Pro costs $20 a month, or $200 a year, which works out to about $17 a month. It gives at least five times Free’s usage per five-hour session, plus a weekly limit across all models.

Pro also adds Research with citations, which our guide to Claude for research covers. It includes Claude Code in the terminal and IDEs, too, as well as scheduled tasks. Anthropic’s Fable models, however, run only on usage credits. Our Claude Code review covers what the coding allowance means.

Max

Max, in turn, costs $100 a month for five times Pro’s usage per session, or $200 for twenty times. Both still have a weekly limit, and both are billed monthly only, so a year costs $1,200 or $2,400.

On Max, Fable models can use up to half of the weekly limit before usage credits apply, Anthropic’s help center says. Our list of Claude Code alternatives compares the cost of heavy agent use.

Team and Enterprise

For companies, Team Standard costs $25 a seat monthly or $20 billed yearly, for 2 to 150 seats. Premium seats, by contrast, cost $125 or $100 and give five times Standard’s usage, and the two can mix.

Enterprise, meanwhile, starts at $20 a seat on yearly billing, plus usage at API rates. On Team and Enterprise, moreover, Anthropic does not train on your content by default, as our list of the best AI for business explains.

Usage Credits and the Agent SDK

On paid plans, usage credits cover work beyond the plan limit, including Claude Code. In addition, since June 15, 2026, the Agent SDK and claude -p have their own monthly credit: $20 on Pro and $100 or $200 on Max.

As a result, scripted or automated use no longer eats into chat limits. For API pricing, our list of the best AI tools for developers covers per-token rates.

Ads, Training and Refunds

Claude shows no ads on any plan, and Anthropic has pledged to keep it ad-free. On Free, Pro and Max, however, Claude trains on your chats unless you turn off Help improve Claude, and it keeps them for five years while training is on.

Refunds, however, are generally not offered, except where consumer terms or local law say otherwise. Users in the EEA and UK, for example, can get a refund in the app within the 14-day withdrawal period.

Students and Yearly Cost

Anthropic, notably, offers no student discount to individuals; instead, Claude for Education reaches students through their universities, as our guide to Claude for students covers.

Over twelve months, for example, Pro costs $200 on yearly billing or $240 monthly, and Max costs $1,200 or $2,400. Our breakdown of what AI tools cost per year compares those totals with rivals.

Which Claude Plan to Choose

In short, Claude pricing rewards starting small. Stay on Free for occasional writing, and take Pro, ideally on yearly billing, for regular work, research and light coding.

Move to Max only if you hit Pro’s weekly limit often, for example through heavy Claude Code use. For the same $20, though, ChatGPT Plus and Google AI Pro are the closest rivals, as our ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini comparison shows. Our list of Claude alternatives covers the rest.

The Verdict

Claude pricing is simpler than ChatGPT’s: Free, Pro and Max for individuals, and Team for companies. Pro on yearly billing is the best value for most regular users.

The catches are limits without published counts, a weekly cap, and training on personal plans by default. So turn off Help improve Claude, and move to Max only when the weekly limit gets in the way.
