Of the tools on this list, the best AI for social media is ChatGPT. Grok, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity then follow. We rank them by three things social teams use: image generation, real-time access to posts, and a saved brand voice.

Grok’s place comes with a warning, however. In January 2026, people used its image tool to create sexualized edits of real people, and two countries blocked it. So this list also covers the rules for AI images on social media.

Best AI for Social Media: The Short Answer

Among the best AI for social media on this list, ChatGPT covers the most. It generates images, and Plus adds custom GPTs and projects that can hold a brand’s voice and guidelines. Grok also meets two checks, because it generates images and reads posts on X in real time. Our guide to using AI for social media content covers the checks before posting.

Claude suits writing in a set voice, while Gemini and Perplexity suit images. Claude’s Styles can learn a voice from a writing sample, guides report, but Claude documents no image generation. Gemini, by contrast, generates images even on its free plan.

How We Ordered the Best AI for Social Media

This list of the best AI for social media counts three documented checks on each tool’s roughly $20 plan. First comes image generation for posts, because most posts need a visual. Next comes real-time access to a social network’s posts. Last comes a saved setup that keeps a brand’s voice across chats.

ChatGPT and Grok meet two each, so our review scores break the tie. That follows the rule on our list of the best AI tools. Claude, Gemini and Perplexity meet one each, so the same rule, then the lower entry price, sets their order. However, we left Microsoft Copilot and DeepSeek off because our sources document none of the three for them.

1. ChatGPT: Images and a Saved Brand Voice

ChatGPT generates images, and its Plus plan page lists custom GPTs and projects. As a result, you can save a brand’s tone, rules and examples once and reuse them for every post. OpenAI, however, plans to retire custom GPTs in favor of plugins, so keep the voice in a project too.

ChatGPT is also an ad channel itself, as our guide to ChatGPT for marketing covers. The catch: Free and Go show ads, and Plus bills monthly only.

2. Grok: Real-Time X, With a Warning

Grok reads posts on X as they appear, which helps with trend spotting, and it generates images. SuperGrok costs $30 a month, an AllAble reading of x.ai/pricing reported, while X Premium+ at $40 also includes it.

⚠️ The catch is serious. In January 2026, people used Grok’s image tool to create sexualized, nonconsensual edits of real people, including minors, Ofcom and news reports said. As a result, Indonesia and Malaysia blocked Grok for a time. In addition, Grok 3 answered 94% of citation queries wrong in the Tow Center study. Our Perplexity vs Grok comparison covers both, and our Claude vs Grok comparison covers the incident.

3. Claude: Writing in a Set Voice

Claude’s Styles menu can build a custom style from a sample of your writing, guides from Guideflow and MemoryLake show. Projects also keep brand guidelines and past posts together, as our guide to Claude for writing covers.

The catch: Claude documents no image generation in our sources. So pair it with an image tool for visual posts, such as ChatGPT or Gemini.

4. Gemini: Free Images for Posts

Gemini generates images on its free plan, and Google AI Plus costs $4.99 a month. For example, a small team can draft captions and images without paying for a $20 plan. Our list of the cheapest useful AI tools covers that option.

The catch, however, is that our sources document no saved brand-voice setup for Gemini. Also, its news-accuracy record was the weakest in the EBU and BBC study, so check any trending facts. Details are in our Gemini review.

5. Perplexity: Images and Sourced Facts

Perplexity Pro lists image generation, and every answer cites its sources. That helps when a post states a fact or a statistic, as our guide to Perplexity for research explains.

The catch: Pro costs $20 a month, but our sources document no saved brand voice for it.

Rules for AI on Social Media

No deepfakes of real people. First, never generate images of real people without consent. After all, the Grok case shows how quickly that becomes a legal and platform problem.

Labels in the EU. Since August 2, 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act requires labels on deepfakes. That includes marketing images that make products look different. AI-generated public-interest text also needs a label unless a person reviews it. Our list of the best AI for marketing covers the details.

No fake reviews or testimonials. The FTC’s consumer reviews rule, in effect since October 21, 2024, also covers AI-written fake reviews.

Which Tool for Which Social Media Job

The best AI for social media on this list depends on the job. Images for posts: ChatGPT or Gemini. Trend spotting on X: Grok, with care. Captions in a set voice: ChatGPT custom GPTs or Claude Styles. Fact-checked posts: Perplexity. For Grok against ChatGPT, see our ChatGPT vs Grok comparison.
