This Grok review starts with a result from Artificial Analysis. Grok 4.7, released on September 21, 2026, invented an answer on 29% of the knowledge questions it should have declined. On the same test, GPT-6 Astra at maximum effort did so on 51%. For more, our page on the best AI for social media covers images, real-time posts and a saved brand voice.
The rest of the picture is harder. The standard SuperGrok plan costs $30 a month, according to September guides that read the plan page. That sits above the $20 tiers of ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity. In January, Grok’s image tool drew bans in two countries and a UK investigation. The sections below cover each plan, what it limits, what happens to your data, and who should pay. Our page on ChatGPT vs Grok covers prices, hallucination rates and Grok’s January safety record.
Grok Review: Is It Worth It in 2026?
SuperGrok is worth $30 a month mainly if you live on X or want Grok’s agents and coding tools. SpaceXAI’s news page lists Grok Bot, a team of always-on agents, on SuperGrok since August, and Grok Build on every plan. Grok also searches public X posts in real time, according to its consumer FAQ. For that audience, the case in this Grok review holds. Our page on Grok vs Microsoft Copilot covers real-time X posts against AI inside Office.
For most other buyers, a $20 plan elsewhere may be the better buy. SuperGrok costs more than ChatGPT Plus, Claude Pro or Perplexity Pro. Grok 4.7 also trails Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra on the Artificial Analysis index. Training on your chats is on by default, and the 2026 safety record deserves a look before you pay.
What Each Grok Plan Costs
SpaceXAI’s plan page did not load for automated reading on September 30, so the prices here come from September guides that read it. AI Toolbox, reading it on September 15, listed four paid tiers. SuperGrok Lite costs $10 a month, SuperGrok $30, SuperGrok Plus $100 and SuperGrok Heavy $300. Annual billing equals ten monthly payments: $100, $300, $1,000 and $3,000. A September 29 guide also reported a promotion that brings Heavy to $99 for its first three months.
Grok also comes inside X subscriptions. X Premium, from $8 a month, raises Grok’s usage limits, and X Premium+, from $40, includes SuperGrok access. Those figures come from X’s Help Center, as quoted by AI Toolbox.
⚠️ Guides disagree on the lineup. A CloudZero guide from early September lists only SuperGrok at $30 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300. AI Toolbox lists Lite and Plus as well. Check the plan page in your own browser before paying.
| Plan | Price (US, reported) | What it adds |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Limited access; counts not published |
| SuperGrok Lite | $10/mo or $100/yr | Entry paid tier |
| SuperGrok | $30/mo or $300/yr | Main paid tier; Grok Bot agents |
| SuperGrok Plus | $100/mo or $1,000/yr | Higher usage |
| SuperGrok Heavy | $300/mo or $3,000/yr | Largest usage; Build mode beta |
| X Premium+ | $40/mo or $395/yr | X subscription with SuperGrok access |
Neither the consumer FAQ nor the news page publishes usage counts for any plan. For this Grok review, we found only third-party descriptions of weekly usage pools, which we do not repeat as fact.
Which Grok Model You Actually Get
SpaceXAI released Grok 4.7 on September 21, 2026, and calls it its most powerful model for coding and knowledge work. The announcement claims twice the speed at half the price of comparable models, which is the vendor’s own comparison. Grok 4.5 reached grok.com, X and the apps on July 22, and Grok 4.6 followed on August 12. We could not find which plans include Grok 4.7 on the pages that loaded. Our list of Grok alternatives also ranks six options by our review scores.
What Independent Boards Show
Grok 4.7 does best on hallucination. Artificial Analysis measured its AA-Omniscience hallucination rate at 29%, down from 34% for Grok 4.6. On the same test, GPT-6 Astra at maximum effort scored 51%. Accuracy is a separate matter: Grok 4.7 answered 47% of questions correctly. Its overall AA-Omniscience index of 32 sits below Claude Opus 5.5 at 46 and GPT-6 Astra at 44.
On the Intelligence Index, version 4.3.2, Grok 4.7 scores 46. Artificial Analysis says that puts SpaceXAI among its top four labs, behind Claude Opus 5.5 at 58 and GPT-6 Astra at 53. It also calls the model very verbose, at about 81,000 output tokens per task against about 36,000 for Grok 4.6.
Arena’s boards split the picture. On the text leaderboard of September 25, 2026, Grok’s best entry, grok-4.5, sat 47th at 1465. The newer grok-4.7-xhigh sat 92nd at 1439, on only 4,114 votes. On the Search board of August 24, grok-4.5 placed eighth of 34 at 1213. That put it ahead of Gemini 3.1 Pro Grounding and both Sonar entries covered in our Perplexity review.

Training, Human Review and Ads
On grok.com and the Grok apps, SpaceXAI may train on your chats unless you opt out. Its consumer FAQ says you control this with the Improve the model setting in Data Controls. Feedback you send can still go into training after you opt out. Signed-out users outside the EU and UK cannot opt out at all.
Private Chat keeps a conversation out of training, and SpaceXAI deletes it within 30 days. The FAQ also says a limited number of authorized staff may review conversations, including to improve model performance. Shared conversation links are public, and search engines may index them.
Grok on X follows X’s settings, not SpaceXAI’s. In July 2024, X switched on a setting that let posts and Grok interactions train the model by default, TechCrunch reported. Ireland’s Data Protection Commission said at the time that it was surprised. Separately, Musk told advertisers in August 2025 that X would place ads inside Grok’s answers. We could not confirm whether those ads have launched or reach the standalone app. The FAQ says SpaceXAI does not share your data for advertising.

The Safety Record
In January 2026, Grok’s image tool drew bans and investigations. Users on X had used it to create sexualized, nonconsensual edits of real people, including minors, according to Ofcom and reports from TechCrunch and AP. Indonesia and Malaysia temporarily blocked Grok, and the UK’s Ofcom opened an investigation. The European Commission ordered X to preserve Grok documents, and X had already limited image generation on X to paying users.
It was not the first episode. In July 2025, Grok’s account on X posted offensive content in what became known as the MechaHitler episode. xAI said afterward that it moved to block hate speech before Grok posts. We found no published outcome of the Ofcom investigation as of September 30, 2026.
Who Runs Grok
Grok belongs to SpaceXAI, the former xAI. SpaceX acquired xAI on February 2, 2026, according to xAI’s own announcement, and the company took the SpaceXAI name in July. X belongs to the same group, though the consumer FAQ describes SpaceXAI as a separate company from X Corp. SpaceXAI also sells computing power to rivals: in May 2026 it agreed to give Anthropic access to its Colossus 1 cluster.
Refunds and Canceling
SpaceXAI’s consumer FAQ lists no refund policy, and we could not find one on the pages that loaded. Subscriptions bought through Apple, Google Play or X follow those platforms’ rules. For billing questions, the FAQ points to SpaceXAI’s support email.
Who Grok Suits, and Who It Doesn’t
Grok suits heavy X users and people who want fewer invented answers. It reads public X posts in real time, and Grok 4.7’s hallucination rate beat GPT-6 Astra’s on the Artificial Analysis test. Developers get Grok Build on every plan.
It suits people less when price, privacy or brand safety matter. SuperGrok costs $10 more a month than ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro, as our ChatGPT review and our Claude review show. Training stays on by default, and the January image scandal may matter to anyone using Grok at work.

What changed after our September check. Bloomberg reported on September 30, 2026 that SpaceXAI is weighing a single Grok and X subscription with four tiers, up to a $100 Ultra tier. An AllAble reading of x.ai/pricing on September 22 also listed SuperGrok at $30 a month. For Grok against its rivals, see our Gemini vs Grok comparison and our Claude vs Grok comparison.
Where else Grok runs. SpaceX completed its purchase of Cursor on August 14, 2026, and Grok 4.7 now sits in Cursor’s own model pool, as our Cursor review covers. GitHub Copilot’s paid plans also list Grok models. On accuracy, an older Tow Center test from March 2025 found that Grok 3 answered 94% of its citation queries incorrectly; that predates Grok 4.7, but the pattern is worth checking.
How We Research
This Grok review draws on SpaceXAI’s own documents, read on September 30, 2026: its consumer FAQ and its news page. The plan page did not load for automated reading, so prices come from AI Toolbox’s reading of September 15, marked as reported. X’s settings history comes from TechCrunch.
Rankings come from the Artificial Analysis Grok 4.7 page, Arena’s text board of September 25 and its Search board of August 24. The January events come from TechCrunch, AP and Ofcom’s statements as reported. We do not run our own tests, and the criteria behind every score live on our about page.
Grok Review FAQ
A free tier costs $0. September guides that read the plan page report SuperGrok Lite at $10 a month, SuperGrok at $30, SuperGrok Plus at $100 and SuperGrok Heavy at $300. X Premium+ at $40 a month includes SuperGrok access.
On grok.com and the Grok apps, yes, unless you turn off Improve the model in Data Controls. Private Chat stays out of training and is deleted within 30 days. On X, X’s own data settings apply.
On Artificial Analysis’s AA-Omniscience test, Grok 4.7 invented an answer on 29% of the questions it should have declined, against 51% for GPT-6 Astra. It answered 47% correctly, and its overall score of 32 trails Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra.
In January 2026, Indonesia and Malaysia temporarily blocked Grok after people used its image tool to create sexualized, nonconsensual edits of real people. The UK’s Ofcom opened an investigation at the same time.
SpaceXAI, formerly xAI, which SpaceX acquired on February 2, 2026. The company took the SpaceXAI name in July 2026.
Grok
Fewer invented answers, more to weigh
Grok 4.7 posted a 29% hallucination rate on Artificial Analysis’s test, and SuperGrok adds agents and real-time X search. Against it, the standard plan costs a reported $30 a month, training is on by default, and staff may review chats. Its January 2026 image scandal led to blocks in Indonesia and Malaysia.
The Verdict
The verdict of this Grok review: pay for SuperGrok if X and Grok’s agents are central to your work. Grok 4.7 invents answers less often than GPT-6 Astra on Artificial Analysis’s test, and SuperGrok bundles agents and coding tools. It still trails Claude Opus 5.5 and GPT-6 Astra on the overall index.
For most buyers, the $30 price and the default training weigh against it. Turn off Improve the model if you subscribe, keep share links for things you want public, and check the plan page yourself. Its prices reached us only through third-party readings.
