Fathom Review (2026): Unlimited Free Recording, Now Owned by Superhuman

This Fathom review covers an AI notetaker with a generous free plan: unlimited recording, transcription and storage for Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls. Advanced AI features, for example, are free on your first five calls each month.

On September 14, 2026, Superhuman, the company formerly called Grammarly, announced it had acquired Fathom. The app keeps running for now, but its future roadmap now sits inside a larger suite.

Fathom Review: Is It Worth It in 2026?

For individuals and small teams who want free, unlimited meeting recording, yes. Premium, moreover, costs $16 a month billed yearly for unlimited AI features.

For heavy AI use across a large team, compare carefully. Team and Business need at least two seats, and CRM sync sits on Business.

What Fathom Does

First, its bot joins calls from your calendar, records and transcribes them, and delivers a summary within about 30 seconds of the end. Ask Fathom then answers questions across your recordings.

Teams, in addition, can share clips and playlists, comment on calls, and on Business sync notes into CRMs such as HubSpot and Salesforce. To edit a recording for publishing instead, our Descript review covers a text-based editor.

Accuracy

We found no recent independent test of Fathom’s transcription or summaries. Accents, crosstalk and jargon, therefore, can still cause errors.

Therefore, check names, numbers and decisions against the recording before you share notes. Our guide to fact-checking AI output covers the routine.

Your Data

Fathom says it is SOC 2 Type II audited and HIPAA compliant, and stores data in the United States. Its help center says neither Fathom nor its AI subprocessors train models on customer recordings or transcripts.

One recent review, however, reports that Fathom uses de-identified data to improve its own models, with an opt-out. Sources disagree, so check the current terms, as our guide to which AI tools train on your data recommends. Our list of the best AI tools for privacy covers stricter tools.

Who Runs Fathom

Fathom was founded in 2020 by Richard White and backed by Y Combinator. Superhuman, led by CEO Shishir Mehrotra, announced the acquisition in September 2026 and plans to bring Fathom into its email, docs and agent tools.

Fathom vs Otter and Fireflies

Otter, for example, is cheaper on yearly Pro but trains on de-identified recordings and faces consent litigation, as our Otter.ai review covers.

Fireflies, by contrast, offers unlimited transcription with strict no-training terms but small shared AI credits, as our Fireflies.ai review explains.

Who Should Use Fathom

Overall, this Fathom review finds it suits consultants, recruiters, founders and customer teams who want free, unlimited recording. It also suits anyone testing AI notes before paying. Our Otter vs Fathom comparison also weighs price and data terms.

By contrast, however, it suits large teams that need heavy AI features less, since costs scale per seat. Our list of the best AI for productivity and our guide to Microsoft Copilot for productivity cover alternatives.

How We Research

This Fathom review takes plans from trackers that read Fathom’s pricing page in 2026, data terms from Fathom’s help center, and the acquisition from Superhuman’s announcement of September 14, 2026.

However, we found no independent accuracy test. Our about page explains the criteria, and our list of the best AI for summarization compares general assistants.
