What QuillBot Does

First, the paraphraser rewrites text in modes such as Standard, Fluency, Formal and Creative. It also checks grammar, summarizes long text, formats citations and, on Premium, checks for plagiarism.

QuillBot also runs on the web, in browsers, on desktop and mobile, and in Word. Our guide to using AI for editing shows where paraphrasers fit.

Accuracy and Academic Use

We found no independent test of QuillBot’s paraphrasing quality. Paraphrases, therefore, can shift meaning, so check them against the original, as our guide to fact-checking AI output explains.

QuillBot also offers a Humanizer. Using any paraphraser to disguise AI-written or copied work, however, can break school and publisher rules, so follow your institution’s policy, as our guide to avoiding overuse of AI in writing discusses.

Your Data

QuillBot’s trust center says account holders can opt out of letting it use text inputs to train its models, and that it does not train on Team plan inputs. Storing inputs, however, is on by default.

It also says it does not let third-party providers train on your data, for example. Our guide to which AI tools train on your data compares other tools.

QuillBot vs Grammarly and Wordtune

Grammarly, for example, focuses on checks everywhere you type, with Pro at $12 a month yearly, as our Grammarly review covers. Wordtune, by contrast, rewrites single sentences, as our Wordtune review explains.

General assistants such as ChatGPT, however, also paraphrase, as our guide to ChatGPT for writing covers.

Who Should Use QuillBot

Overall, this QuillBot review finds it suits students and writers who paraphrase, summarize and check citations often. It also suits non-native English writers on a budget.

By contrast, however, it suits long-form drafting less. Our list of the best AI tools for writers covers alternatives, and our guide to writing with AI without sounding like AI covers voice.
